Faculty AffiliateĀ Dr. Henry C. McKoy Jr. gave comments in CBS17 story about new development plans in Durham. Developer Sterling Bay plans to construct more housing units and retail space, which will also include a separate lab and office building.

Dr. McKoy is a co-founder of Hayti Reborn, which has been vocal in its disapproval of these plans and wants more efforts to revitalize the community instead.

There’s also this concern about what this would mean for the character of the community,ā€ McKoy said. ā€œIf you bring in a 300-foot building into this side of the community at this scale that the buildings are now, it would overshadow it.ā€

Dr. McKoy is a former presidential appointee of the Biden administration, a former assistant secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, and a former professor at North Carolina Central University.
