Faculty Affiliate Nancy MacLean, Ph.D. gave historical context to the political ideology of the current White House Administration on a panel at the opening session of the Organization of American Historians. Dr. MacLean is the William H. Chafe Distinguished Professor of History and Public Policy at Duke University.
Neil Steinberg uses Dr. MacLean’s comments as his column in the Chicago Sun Times as she identifies the groups that the administrations platform stems from:
The carnival of cruelty enabled by 47’s reelection has very deep roots. Three key groups have been: 1) predatory capitalists; 2) white supremacists; and 3) religious conservatives, led by conservative Protestants oblivious to the actual ethics of Jesus.”
And, as she calls her colleagues to act:
We can do better. We can fight like the world depends on us. Because it does.”
