Bruce Orenstein and Clinton Boyd Jr. interviewed by WUNC North Carolina Public Radio about Housing Discrimination Documentary

Cook Center Artist-In-Residence Bruce Orenstein and Post-doctoral associate Clinton Boyd Jr. were interviewed about Orenstein’s documentary episode, “The Color Tax: Origins of Modern Day Racial Wealth Gap”. A recent study from Duke’s Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity estimated that Black people in Chicago lost up to $4 Billion though predatory hosing practices. 
 
In addition to the study, Orenstein explores the effect of home sale contract on Black wealth loss, a story he co-directs in “The Color Tax: Origins of Modern Day Racial Wealth Gap”. This episode is a part of a larger series, “Shame of Chicago“. 
 
This interview includes Orenstein’s insight on how home sale contracts to Black families works and on the loss of wealth due to these contract. Boyd also gives his reflections of the documentary and on the socio-economic ripple effects of the loss of Black wealth.
