The Cook Center’s DITE program, which provides mentorship and support for tenure-track economists from underrepresented groups, is set to convene its fellows, mentors, and scholars from April 10-12 at Emory University’s Conference Center in Atlanta, GA. This convening is one of two that will take place this year for current fellows to have the opportunity to network and receive feedback on their current research to prepare for tenure.
The spring program of DITE, formally titled the Diversity Initiative for Tenure in Economics and now on its 15th cohort, will officially commence on Thursday evening with a welcoming reception, providing an opportunity for fellows and mentors to engage in informal discussions and introductions before Friday’s series of talks. Dr. William “Sandy” Darity Jr., Founding Director of the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity, will deliver opening remarks to set the tone for a weekend of professional and research development.
Over the course of the convening, current DITE fellows will present their ongoing research, and receive valuable feedback. These fellows include: Mayra Pineda-Torres (Georgia Technical Institute), Agustin Hurtado (University of Maryland), David McMillon (Emory University), Keisha Solomon (Howard University), and Omer Ali (University of Pittsburgh). These presentations will be complemented by discussions that provide fellows with critical guidance on research advancement, publication strategies, and professional service.
Beyond the scheduled formal sessions, the convening will facilitate rich opportunities for networking. Fellows will engage directly with mentors, distinguished economists who have demonstrated an enduring commitment to the advancement of underrepresented scholars in the field. Mentorship relationships are central to the program’s mission, providing fellows with sustained guidance, strategic career advice, and access to extensive professional networks. These approaches are designed to support fellows in developing a robust research portfolio, establishing a competitive publishing record, and positioning themselves for tenure-track success.
The conference will conclude on Saturday, April 12.
