Cook Center Faculty Affiliate Dr. Omer Ali, an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh, recently received a grant (with his colleagues Randall Walsh and Andreas Ferrara) from the Russell Sage Foundation.
Under the grant category of “Social, Political, and Economic Inequality”, Dr. Ali and his colleagues will examine how historical mortgage insurance practices by the Federal Housing Administration are related to the long-term trajectory of neighborhoods, residents, and racial inequality.
Dr. Ali’s research explores the role played by housing markets and housing policy in precipitating the racial wealth gap. His research interests include the political economy of inequality in the United States.
