China and Higher Education Access

This course offered an interdisciplinary examination of the history and experience of higher education in China, including cotemporary demographic trends, sociocultural development, and challenges to access. Students gained an understanding of issues of diversity and discrimination in college campuses in China, of policies and practices for promoting democratic engagement and citizenship among Chinese youth, and the particular experiences of undergraduate students attending Chinese universities from which they historically were excluded.
