We are looking for an undergraduate Research Assistant (RA) for 9 hours a week to work on a research project titled “Redlining Matters: Racial and Neighborhood Differences in Heat-Related Illnesses and Deaths in a Changing Climate.” The goal of this project is to determine the prevalence of heat-related illnesses and deaths in Durham, North Carolina’s six historically redlined neighborhoods compared to non-redlined neighborhoods, and to examine whether there are disparities in heat-related illnesses and deaths across races.
This is a great project for an undergraduate interested in climate change health impacts, racial justice, and health equity. The investigators on the project are Dr. Kate Hoffman of the Nicholas School of the Environment and Drs. Keisha Bentley-Edwards and Melissa Scott of the Cook Center on Social Equity. The position takes effect immediately, and goes through June 15, 2022 with some flexibility on start time. The job duties entail assisting in (1) literature reviews, (2) manuscript writing, (3) data analysis using R, and (4) other project activities. There is flexibility on which duties the RA will work on, based on student interest and project needs.
