New Grants to Address Disparities in Kidney Disease and Study Effects of Reparations on Childhood Wellbeing

Cook Center Associate Director of Research Keisha L. Bentley-Edwards, also an Associate Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, just received a major grant from the National Institutes of Health for a new project to address structural racism and health disparities in kidney disease. The five-year project will have Duke University operating as the coordinating center for this research, which will include five clinical trials at different intervention sites.

Dr. Bentley-Edwards is one of three multiple principal investigators (MPIs) on the project; she will be working alongside Dr. Christina Wyatt, Associate Professor in the Division of Nephrology, and Dr. Huiman Barnhart, Professor in the Department of Statistics and the Duke Clinical Research Institute.
