Lauren Brinkley-Rubinstein comments on use of Medicaid to expand health services for incarcerated individuals before release in NC

Cook Center Faculty Affiliate Lauren Brinkley-Rubinstein provided comments on recent use of Medicaid to expand health services provided to incarcerated individuals before their release in NC Health News article.  

Dr. Brinkley-Rubinstein, a professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine explains that this new use provides vital care as the mortality risk for the formerly incarcerated upon reentry to the community is high. 

“It provides resources that have not otherwise been available to this population,” Brinkley-Rubinstein said. “Being able to bill the government for care will certainly hopefully provide more access to care than folks are already receiving.”
