William A. Darity, Jr., Samuel DuBois Cook professor of public policy, African and African American studies and economics, has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Political and Social Science (AAPSS), the academy announced today. The academy inducts a new cohort of Fellows each year, in recognition of distinguished scholarship that advances science and deepens public understanding of human behavior and social dynamics. There are now 152 Fellows in total. AAPSS promotes the use of social science in policy-making and publishes the journal The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. Darity is one of seven scholars in the 2022 cohort and is the academy’s 2022 W.E.B. Du Bois Fellow. His research focuses on inequality by race, class and ethnicity, and he is a leading researcher on reparations and the originator of the subfield of stratification economics. He is the founding director of the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University. His most recent book, coauthored by A. Kirsten Mullen, is From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the 21st Century.  Darity is executive producer of the podcast series, Arc of Justice, which was inspired the book, and will be distributed by American Public Media. The 2022 Fellows will be inducted at an event to be held in Philadelphia later this year. For a complete list of AAPSS Fellows, visit https://www.aapss.org/fellows-of-the-academy/.
