The Cook Center has been invited to present The Color Tax: Origins of the Modern-Day Racial Gap at the annual meeting of the Chicagoland Compliance Association on July 27th. The association represent Chicago-area banks and provides the banking community with compliance education pertaining to the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). The CRA, enacted in 1977, requires the Federal Reserve and other federal banking regulators to encourage financial institutions to help meet the credit needs of the communities in which they do business, including low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods. Bruce Orenstein, Director of the documentary series, the Shame of Chicago, Shame of the Nation, will present the film and head up a panel discussion with association members. The documentary series is a production of the Cook Center. On three consecutive Thursday nights during Black History Month in February 2024, the series will air on WTTW in Chicago and other local PBS affiliates throughout the country.
