Aaron Young Scholar Alina Azhar named Durham Public Schools Student of the Month for November

We are proud to celebrate Hank & Billye Suber Aaron Young Scholar Alina Azhar in her recognition by Durham Public Schools as Student of the Month for November. In the feature written by  Durham Public Schools (DPS), she outlined her future goals to pursue higher education and mission to overcome disadvantages to live freely. As she talked about the opportunities she is taking advantage of to reach her goals, she identified the Aaron Young Scholars Institute as an important part of her journey. “My biggest accomplishment so far would be my work at the Duke Young Scholars Research Institute and the research I’ve done and presented regarding the intersection between the humanities and STEM,” she said.

In 2023, Azhar started the Hank & Billye Suber Aaron Young Scholar Summer Institute completing a research poster titled, “The Effects of Systematic Racism in Education on Technology and Engineering”. She returned for the 2024 institute cycle, completing a research paper, “As the STEAM Rises: How the Downfall of Arts Education in the U.S. Impacts the Field of Engineering”.
