In Fall 2014, the Global Inequality Research Initiative (GIRI) course focused on "Global Blackness". Throughout the semester, GIRI students explored the multifaceted experiences and issues related to Black identity and culture on a global scale.

This course delves into a wide range of topics that encompass class-inflicted race relations, wealth and employment disparities, gender and sexuality, culture and aesthetics, law, politics and voting, identity, migration, education and schooling, discrimination, affirmative action, geography, and the concept of reparations.

Students will critically examine the historical and contemporary contexts of Blackness and engage in discussions that are essential for understanding the complex dynamics of racial inequality, empowerment, and social change.
