JUNE 19-23, 2017 - we are's Summer Camp (1st - 2nd Grade Students)

we are's Summer Camp will provide a space for 1st - 2nd grade students to explore their own identities and the identities of other students. In addition, we are aims to work with students to understand race, racism, and how together we can recognize and challenge racist practices. Using literacy based strategies and hands-on activities, kids will be engaged in a number of learning experiences related to promoting anti-racism.  The goals of the camps are to:

  • Foster healthy racial identities in youth
  • Build a historical understanding of race and racism
  • Equip families with tools and resources which extend anti-racist practices in the home and community

Both camps will take place at Central Park School for Children located at 724 Foster Street, Durham, NC. Registration per camp is $250 and scholarships are available. To register, click here

JULY 17-19, 2017 - Educator Summer Institute

we are will hold its Educator Summer Institute Monday, July 17th - Wednesday, July 19th, at Hillside High School (3727 Fayetteville Road, Durham, NC) from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Participating K-12 teachers will earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). It is strongly recommended teams of at least three teachers from each school attend, but this is not a requirement. ​

Teachers will walk away with a plan to address a racial equity issue at their own school.  The institute cost is $200. For school teams of three or more, the cost is $175 per teacher. Breakfast and lunch are included.​ To register, click here
