Duke responds to some of protesters’ demands, but they refuse to leave the administration building

“The administration’s response was simply re-branded non-negotiation,” said Adrienne Harreveld, a 2014 graduate who works at the Duke Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity, in the statement from protesters. “Creating these committees means the university can’t be held publicly accountable to consider these demands or work toward any of these goals. Once protesters see actions, deadlines and legitimate commitments, then the University can rightfully claim they have tried to negotiate.”
