GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Race, identity, and culture are just some of the topics elementary-aged children are learning in the “We Are” summer camp. When reflecting on America’s dark history with race, one might think 6 to 11 years old is too young to learn about it; but the executive director of the program says right now is the perfect time. We Are is an acronym that stands for working to extend anti-racist education. The organization was founded in Durham in 2016 by Dr. Ronda Taylor Bullock. An overwhelming demand for the camps and training over the years has them expanding to the Triad. We Are uses a three-prong approach to disrupt systemic racism in education and beyond by offering summer camps for kids in rising 1st  through 5th grade, professional development for educators and workshops for parents and families. Dr. Taylor Bullock says she started dreaming about the idea for We Are in 2014.
